Fiction Editing Types and Rates
I offer Development Editing and Copyediting. I love working on literary fiction, thrillers, detectives and human interest stories. Rates depend on manuscript length and condition, and the type of editing desired and needed.
Note that rates are quoted in Canadian Dollars. I can give you a quote in another currency on request.
Development Editing /Substantial Editing/Rewriting
If you are revising an early draft of your story, I can help you strengthen the shape of your story and your story’s foundations. In a developmental edit, I will give you feedback on plot, characterisation, pacing, tone, language, world-building, etc.
You get: a tracked manuscript and an editorial report
Starting Rates*: $60 CAD per hour 4-6 pages an hour

Copyediting
Copyediting is editing at the sentence level. This includes editing grammar, punctuation, spelling, mechanics of style, wordiness, and internal consistency. I will also address word order, flow, and clarity.
You get: a tracked manuscript, a clean manuscript, and an editorial report
Starting Rates: $52 CAD per hour 7-10 pages an hour

Manuscript Evaluation
Constructive and comprehensive feedback on your early-stage manuscript.
You get: 4-5 pages of recommendations.
Starting rate: $1200 CAD
You get: a tracked manuscript, a clean manuscript, and an editorial report

Proofreading
I don’t provide proofreading myself but can recommend a number of proofreaders from my extensive list of contacts.
